How Does One Service The Air Conditioning Unit On Cars?

Do I have to take my car to an air conditioning shop to have it serviced? One is able to receive instructions in the owner’s manual for servicing and maintaining the coolant system, but they do not include details on maintaining your air conditioning unit. Has anyone performed this on their own?

You have to be licensed to handle the chemicals used in the system. They can be dangerous not nearly as dangerous as they were years ago. But Still you also have to have special equipment to recharge the system if you were to break the seal. So in short take it to someone who knows what their doing and is licensed to do so.

when you buy the car from showroom you get all guarantee and
    you get service from showroom.

  4. unless you have the proper tools to work with, its almost impossible to do this, you need gages and other tools, its better to let the professionals do this type of work, good luck with it.

Tom In the best reasonable and logical way,the whole truth is this you cannot due to EPA laws do any kind of work to your cars a/c system, and this law is in all 50 states. The only thing you can do is spray clean the condenser both in front and back on your car this helps to bring the system to a cooler range due to the dirt removal which is a common occurance after a period of time.Regardless of season and time of year you need to run the a/c system a full 10 minutes a month so the seals don’t crack out and stop working, the defrost section is vitally important to the a/c systems too.GOOD LUCK

    1) Get certified to work on A/C.
    2) Fix your problem.
Besides the belt, there isn’t much “serviceable” on A/C.

    have to be certified first

Yeah, they want you to be licensed, but if you have the info, tools, and freon, you can do it yourself. You can even replace your crappy non-CFC AC with a unit that uses the older, more effective stuff… the only problem is finding it. Mostly you’ll have to rely on international suppliers for that.

None I can think of fixed his own A/C. To get it fixed, first you do an online search for auto mechanics specializing in fixing air conditioners, then get directons to the place from mapquest. Finally put your car in gear and drive to the shop and ask them to fix it.

The ac unit on your car can fail for several reasons, Determine if it is low freon or another failure. Do a visual inspection and check all the obvious. The belt for ac compressor must be tight and not slipping it should also not be cracked or glazed. The condenser at the front of car should be free of debris and bugs, you can simply spray air from the engine compartment out towards grill (engine not running). water works to don’t be wild about this take it easy.
O ya did you really need service if A/c blows cold then leave it alone. When you turn on ac does the compressor clutch engage the compressor and circulate freon ? Check the ac hoses for signs of leaks, there is usually a oily residue where it has leaked. To be honest replacement of hoses and adding freon should be done by a pro. if you are leaking freon once you replace leaking component you should evacuate system then charge to a specific amount of freon. The ac system can generate very high pressures and you could cause yourself harm. The charge kits they sell at parts stores could cost you more in the long run. The longer you leave a ac system down the more it could cost.
